The three most popular platforms have their own pros and cons,no one is perfect after all! The blog platform you choose will depend on what your blogging goals are. 

WordPress

  1. The most popular website building platform and content management system. Nearly a quarter of all websites and blogs rely on WordPress 
  2. Ability to host eCommerce stores, corporate sites, news portals, and more
  3. Self-hosted or totally free WordPress.org and hosted WordPress.com either free with ads or paid without ads
  4. Simple to use with a ready-made community of users 

Ghost

  1. Simple platform, minimal user interface, purely a blogging platform
  2. Offers a free self-hosted version and a hosted version on Ghost's servers
  3. Minimalist design and functionality

Medium

  1. Community-centric writing tool primarily used by serious writers
  2. Focuses on high quality, niche-centric topics and long-form writing
  3. Purely hosted platform, you cannot download anything, run on your own servers, or use a custom domain.
  4. Medium pays contributors through a paid membership program. Members earnings are based on how often readers "clap" for their content
